I haven't played it myself personally but I've looked through some videos of both gameplay, bestiary and environment and I can quite safely assume that eventhough AoC is more realistic and better looking, most players of WoW won't leave to play AoC.

I would've like to have tried the beta but getting an invite seems hopeless.

It can`t be the downfall of wow :)

First of, FunCom aims for 400 000 fixed subscribers ( witch they have of today, just a question of how many sticks ) FunCom`s server park is`t ready for more than 500 000-600 000 players. Even if thats only a cash issue. They are also not planning for that many sold.

But most importantly, The strength of Wow is that it can be played on pretty much anything. A half decent electric razor with a display should even handle it :P
AoC would require an upgrade for a very many players in terms of computer HW. People like me, who upgrades when their work stuff demands it. Never mind plays on a Mac, we won`t do much more than look twice at it.

When and if it comes on Xbox 360 it could pose a bigger threat. But consoles is`t a natural place for MMOèrs to be :)

And lastly, if 5 out of 20 in a guild leaves for AoC, those remaining 15 will be a reason for the first 5 to return. Strenght in numbers and WoW got the numbers :)

I know WoW will die some day, but it won`t be due to AoC, not even getting a deep wound.

AoC just seems like it takes a huge chunck out of the players, due to exams being around now, as well as being new and fresh. The numbers that count vs WoW will be the number of players they have in say 3-6 months :)

yeah I still think that in the longer run AoC will take over. You know, in a couple of years, when everybody has comps that will run AoC

Many have tried, many have failed.

I don't think AoC is a big enough license to attract the playerbase it needs to survive, never mind take over.

i recently had a friend buy AOC and says it is better than WOW in every aspect but he never got into WOW.  I dont think a lvl 3 mage counts as playing it but ill leave his opinion to himself.  WOW ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!

One of the guys in the office has recently frozen his wow account in favour of AoC and he says AoC is very dissapointing.

The thing people won't get past is the fact WoW has matured so much since release.  These guys may have a superior game to that of the initial WoW release but to try and compete with such well established game is asking for trouble.

Even those that try and blatantly copy WoW's UI and features *cough* LOTR *cough* can't even get close.
