Title: Stopping AFKers in AV
Post by: Antheus on January 18, 2008, 05:57:50 PM
Blizzard have already tried a couple of things to stop people simply staying in the starting caves in the AV battleground, including adding functionality to allow players to report AFKers, and most recently kicking offenders from the game.

However they still seem to be fighting a losing battle, so I'm interested in what the great and powerful minds of the LanCraft faithful can suggest...

What should Blizzard do to stop people AFK leeching in AV?

How about only awarding honour and tokens to players that have either caused some damage or healing?

Nice idea - just to play devil's advocate... how would you set the minimum limit?

Put it too low and people could just heal a few people as they mount up at the start or stay in defence tohit a few people and then go back into the cave and AFK.

Set it too high, people who enter later who ride out and do take part might not get the honor/mark(s) they deserve.

Guys I don't know if you've done AV since the shakedown, but we've had almost zero leechers this weekend.

I think they have hit it on the head.

I have been hitting AV hard this week end and looking at the Raid tab only saw 1 Inactive player all week end!

So the plans are working!

Only Idea I had (Sitting up and 2:00am healing Kara) was a  Minus Honour Points if you get kicked out!!! That would really stop people!

I think that after a certain amount of time inactive, you are booted from the bg and get the famous "deserter" buff.  I think that would be a great idea and not only get a new player who wants to pvp in, but stop the afker from going into a bg for 15 min each time.

I think blizzrad are in the same mind as us guys when it comes to AFK pvp.  The reason I say that is that, I was listening to the WoW Podcast "The Instance" and they were talking about this very subject.  A quote from the instance website

Quote from: The Instance.net
Yesterday, CM Bornakk announced “Starting immediately, we will be issuing warnings and penalties, including suspensions and the removal of Honor points and recently acquired Honor rewards, for non-participation in Battleground games. We are taking action against thousands of accounts immediately, and will continue to monitor these situations and regularly take action against violators. If you encounter a player in a Battleground who is intentionally not participating in the battle for an extended period of time, please help us track the situation and report the player as AFK.  All reports will be thoroughly investigated, and corrective action will only be taken if the violation is confirmed.”

I think I get what you guys are talking about. There is only lmited space for players in the PVP grounds and if someone AFK's they are taking up a space someone else could be actually playing in?

My question is, why the hell would anyone AFK in the PVP grounds in the first place? Do they do it on purpose just to be d!cks?

They do it because they get the same honour points that everyone else gets without doing any work which of course isn't fair.  Power levelling companies are famous for it with their "Your new level70 will have xxx honour points for you to spend" type offers.
