Title: Shadow Priest & Threat Reduction
Post by: Auldur on April 10, 2008, 05:27:37 PM
A few of the Kara runs I've been on post 2. 4 have seen me pulling boss aggro even when Omen (if it's to be believed) showed me quite a bit below MT.

So my question is this. . . .  Does anyone remember how the hell we used to manage aggro without any mods apart from the old "let him get a couple of sunders on" as that doesn't really cut it on bosses like Curator when the raid leader tactic is "Auldur all out dps on him for the duration".

Daal, I recall you mentioned a spec change to do away with Imp VE, did you find that made a big difference to your aggro?  I'd like to get it sorted before we start hitting Kara in earnest  :D

Um, I think I actually stopped applying VE rather than spec out of it cos of its usefulness in solo.

I had a pretty good spec that sat nicely in between PvP and PvE.

Are you planning on doing any PvP with Auldur?

I have dipped Auldur's toes into the murky waters of the PvP world & found it much more fun than it ever was as a prot warrior with no healer :-)

So yeah, but not any way near as much as you do  :o

As for the VE spec, I was thinking of taking the 2 points & placing them in Shadow Affinity for the threat reduction.   I don't tend to use it for solo TBH.

Well I'd recommend the following spec as a great all rounder.

In terms of threat in raids, I recommend only using the following rotation (timings may be slightly out)

Vamp Touch, Power Word Pain, Mindblast, Flay, Flay, Flay, Mindblast
Vamp Touch, Mindblast, Flay, Flay, Flay, Mindblast

And keep repeating.

In terms of gearing, just make sure you cap your +spell hit then worry about +damage.

Cheers.

I've been having a look at shadowpriest. com (fantastic site for all things dark side), in relation to stats it talks about things like "+STA above encounter burst or +MP/5", now I know what the +MP/5 is about, but I've no clue what "encounter burst" is *sits back and waits to be lold @*   Any ideas?

Well burst usually referes to lots of damage very quickly typically through crits.

I suspect this is really bad for a Shadow Priest :)

When I raided as shadow, I firstly made sure that I got up to the +spell hit cap (seem to think its about 90 with talents) and then into Stam to make sure I had the magic 8k unbuffed health.

After that, it all goes into +damage afaik, unless the new patch has changed stuff.
