If i may add my 2 cents in here, having played an elemental shaman quite
extensivley, I'd say it depends on what you want to do.  If you want to support
the friends that you mentioned in an arena context i'd say that a healing spec
with a bit of elemental for damage is superior to an elemental spec with a bit of
healing.  If your talking about a pve dps spec then there are a few tips i can
give from my own experiences.

1.  Spell Crit: very important, you can spec this up by going down the resto tree
as far as tidal mastery.  Elemental Shaman can have mana issues and elemental
focus essentially makes crit into a mana conservation tool in addition to a dps
boost.  As such a good enough crit rating allows you to move talent points from
Unrelenting Storm to more dps increasing talents.

2.  Imp Spirit Wolf: may seem unnessesary for elemental, but in a jam it can be
a lifesaver, drop a earthbind totem or frostshock, insta-wolf then pull back and
pelt them with lightning.

3.  Parties: elemental shamans, especially with the new tree, are at there best
when they've someone to buff.  Your dps might seem to lag behind the cloth
casters etc.  (although you dps well with decent gear and timing) but your
totems and group buffing proc talents will contibute a lot to the dps even
before you consider the might of Heroism.

I hope this helps.

HI...havent posted for a little while so here is an update on where im at.

I am now level 66 and have respecced to Restoration.....after about 4 respeccs i am now fairly happy with the build....or at elast until later today when i get to experiment with the new talents.

I chose resto at lvl 65..mainly because i was fed up with never being able to find a healer for lower lvl instances, but i must say that i am enjoying being the healer much more than i was dps. With dps it seemed very easy just stand there and hit stuff, maybe place a totem or too and an emergency heal but rly it was v simple......and no-one notices if your not doing a perfect job. Whereas now that i am the healer (and 99% of the time the only heaqler in the 5 man groups) i find there is a huge amount of responsibility on my shoulders. If we wipe or the tank dies then inevitably the healer gets blamed...no-one says why didnt you kill the mob faster, they say why didnt you keep the tank alive!!!!But i am really enjoying the added pressure and its very satisfying when you do a good job.

Have run about 7 or 8 instances with myself as the healer now and managed to finish every one, plus only had 1 or 2 wipes full stop, usually due to a target mix-up or my fingers getting confused!!!
Have also pretty much got to grips with the basic healing spells that i have (pre-patch) and when to use each one. Have also got some good healing gear, some of the best i can get at my lvl (non-tiered sets) which gives me about 88mp5 and +462 healing unbuffed.

First time i respecced i used about 14 points in the elemental tree at the expense of mana tide totem and a couple of other things. I did this mainly for pvp and soloing but i found that i was having a few mana regen issues so i subsequently respecced again and put all my points, apart from 5, into the resto tree. The 5 i used for ancestral knowledge in the enhancment which gave me more mana. This has worked very well for me since.

I love pvp n stuff aswell...obviously i aint gonna do hella loads of dmg but im loving the survivability of the resto shaman....instant heals with NS and less interruption, plus mana shield means that i am very hard to kill. Infact some lvl 65 paladin (i was 65 at time too) tried to gank me on the bone wastes in terrokar. I was suimultaneously fighting 3 lvl 63 and 64 mobs when i started taking massive damage from this guy. i was ta half health and he must have ben chuckling. however i popped off a masive 4000+ self heal and dropped earthbind and searing totems.....re-casting my searing every time he destroyed it.....i killed a couple of the mobs while he hit out at me in vain, healing when necessary. then turned my attention on him, making sure i hjad water shield at ALL times. every time i got low on health i popped a big self heal and noticed that he was running out of mana quite quickly while i had barely touched mine. Cut a long story short he hit me until he ran out of mana then i slowed him down and gradually wore him down until, realising he was never gonna outlast me, he tried to run. EB and searing and shocks and he was dead......and i still had the one mob hitting me! Suffuce to say i camped on his corpse and ganked him again 3 times b4 i let him go..........did make me chuckle.....

So....onto the new talents....ive actually got my computer patching right now as im at work so havent had a chance to try them out but must say the they look AWESOME. In fact they are all so awesome that i have struggled to make a practice build that incorporates everything i want!!! Im  having to scrifice healing way and natures guidance but i do get riptide and ancestral healing (the ghost summon one!). Healing seemed quite straight forward with the current spells but with the new ones i think there will be alot more skill to it.....calmost choosing when to crit and summon the ghost etc......plus the new HoT and earthliving weapon means that the new resto shaman will seriously whoops ome ass. Plus i get the impression theat they wil also do more dmg because of the new +spell damage stat?

Well i have gone on a bit but there ya go.

Wohoo, welcome to wide world of appreciation of being a healer! Wink And yues, healing rocks! I believe you will enjoy it hugely and you will certainly not have any problems getting a group so enjoy!

quick question about shaman talents

Is it worth taking healing way? I really only use chain heal and LHW so i dont see that healing way is a worthy use of talent points?

healing wave talent is indeed very nice talent to have, however now when downranking is normalized, if you are not used to heal with healing wave then sure there is not rly any need to get that talent
by not using healing wave that means in that case that yhe only thing you keep tank up with is earth shield, chain heal (maybe a instant healing wave).
but overall healing wave is alot more mana/heal efficient I belive so

The new talent tree makes healing wave less useful as the introduction of riptide makes chain heal your standard "Big Heal" I was thinking about moving the heaking way points myself.
