A nerf is decreasing of power. If a patch lowers a rogues damage due to changes, then rogues are said to be nerfed.

lol i thought it was mandatory now for Locks to be nerfed?

If you look at page 3001 in "Blizzards Rules and Regulations" it clearly states " at each and every patch update Warlocks are to be NERFED in at least 2 areas"

The term comes from the brand name of a toy manufacturer in the 70s who made foam rubber weapons.  Nerf bats and Nerf guns were especially popular.

Thanks fellas. I remember the nerf guns. I had a motorized one that shot foam darts with suckers from a magazine. Great fun. Well... the cat didn't think so :-)
