Name: The Deadmines
Level: 15 - 25
Location: Westfall, Eastern Kingdoms

Description:
The Deadmines is the first instance most Alliance players will experience, and is a gentle yet challenging (not to mention fun) introduction to instancing in World of Warcraft.

Located within the Defias town of Moonbrook, South-West of the Alliance settlement of Sentinel Hill, the instance entrance is located deep within a cave system stretching out underneath Moonbrook and the nearby hills.

Mobs:
The majority of The Deadmines' inhabitants are Human or Goblin members of the Defias Brotherhood (both classed as "Humanoid").

However before entering the instance portal, close-by are a number of Undead that must be killed for the "Collecting Memories" quest.

Bosses:
  • Marisa du'Paige - Level 18 Elite (Rare)
  • Brainwashed Noble - Level 18 Elite (Rare)
  • Foreman Thistlenettle - Level 20 Elite
  • Rhahk'Zor <The Foreman> - Level 19 Elite
  • Miner Johnson - Level 19 Elite (Rare)
  • Sneed & Sneed's Shredder <Lumbermaster> - both Level 20 Elite
  • Gilnid - Level 20 Elite
  • Mr. Smite <The Ship's First Mate> - Level 20 Elite
  • Cookie <The Ship's Cook> - Level 20 Elite
  • Captain Greenskin - Level 20 Elite
  • Edwin VanCleef <Defias Kingpin> - Level 21 Elite

Quests:
Collecting Memories
Oh Brother...
Red Silk Bandanas
The Defias Brotherhood
Underground Assault

Other Interesting Information:
  • Usually referred to as DM, although due to confusion with Dire Maul it is also sometimes known as VC (after VanCleef, the end-boss)
  • Within the Deadmines players with the Mining trade skill will find Copper Veins, Silver Veins and Tin Veins.
  • Whilst you enter through a building in Moonbrook itself, the exit (after killing VanCleef) brings you out in the hills behind the town.
  • Darkmoon Faire quest Your Fortune Awaits You... requires travelling to the Deadmines, and as the only quest available to members of the Horde involving this instance.
  • This is definitely an instance for lovers of Pirates, as the Defias Brotherhood are a band of pirates, with VanCleef himself being located at the top of a large pirate ship. Also, a little bit of comedy comes from Mr Smite - a large Tauren Pirate!
  • Many higher-level players use this instance for fun-runs and races, such as who can complete the entire instance (ending with killing VanCleef and exiting through the portal behind) the fastest solo...

I still chuckle if I ever take an alt through, or boost a guildie when Smite goes back to his chest for a bigger weapon, genius Smiley
