And no, it's not a man with a weasel through his head...

I was just wondering if some of you have had the off chance to try some of the new game titles out there. I am mainly thinking of Half Life 2: Episode 2. Which I, in my humble opinion, think is the best fps-game ever made to this day. Included in the upcoming Orange Box, which will contain 5 Valve games. Among them, apart from the Half Life 2 episodes there's also Portal. This game gives a little twist to the usual linear construction of fps-games today namely just: Portals. The player is, with a very special piece of technology, able to open portals in our own dimension allowing insantanious travel from one spot to another by simply walking through. It's pretty neat actually.

There's also the mindblowing Crysis, which has just been released in demo version. Tried it earlier today and I was quite impressed and later depressed realizing I would need to buy a new computer in order to fully enjoy it.

I also got that same realization when I tried the Unreal 3 demo. One can only try to comprehend what this new gaming and rendering engine will do in the future of game development.

So, anyone who's tried any of these out yet?

I have to admit, the only game I play on the PC is this one Smiley

I have a PS3, 360 and a Wii so usually get my FPS/Sports fix elsewhere.  Have just had my first exposure to Halo 3 and was very impressed.

As for HL2E2, was reading about it in the 360 mag this month and it does look good.  Portal looks very interesting but the cream on the cake for me is the new Team Fortress 2 Smiley

I have the Orange box, and it is truly amazing Smiley i love all of it. Portals is a brilliant new concept and age of games. Runs great, and fun to play. HL2 is just unbelieveable. I reconmend it 110% to anyone who was thinking of buying it. To buy it.

BUT:: Don't buy the Box unless your PC is pretty fast. About 2gig RAM. Usually will make it smooth. My mate has 1gig and its a bit laggy.

Anyway, my brothers friend has the crysis demo, and he said its by far the best fps he has ever played. EA have really out done themselves on this one.

About Team Fortress 2: I haven't actually had time to try Team Fortress 2 yet, but I was a fan of the good ole one. Me and my buddies used to play it alot on LAN's.

About the Orange Box: I am in great awe of you now Art, that box could contain the most powerful combo of games ever made. I would replay all the games just for buying that lovely piece. It truely was a strike of genius by Valve to do it.

A question: Isn't the Orange Box supposed to be available on the PS3? Because I, like Daal, am a owner of this wonderful machine. And I think it will bring tears to my eyes as well as Gordon's if it will be.

About Crysis: Although the game itself is truly amazing in the aspect of graphics I would like to further investigate in the stoyline before going to the lenghts of calling it the best fps I've ever played. But I can admit that the ingenuity of the game dynamics is pretty impressive and will definetly prehibit any critiques from calling the game linear.

Armed Assault was a favourite for a while, I just keep coming back to wow though.
Like Daal I get my sport fix from the 360. enjoying ice hockey mainly, I cant use the controllers for fps on a console, I need a mouse and keyboard.. I'm a PC fanboy  Cool

I for one think FPS-games on consoles poses somewhat of a challenge compared to if played on a PC. But maybe that's just me Smiley

Half Life 2 sucks!! Its such a pain to install and the steam software YUK. Half 1 was good but that was mainly due to the free mods (TFC, Day of Defeat, Counter Strike, etc) which im sure are avaible for 2 but its not the same.

Will probably get UT2007 as im more of a charge in and blast them to itty bitty pieces.

You know, you don't have to use Steam in order to play the new games. Buuuut I didn't say that *whistles*

But even if you have to use Steam, which I can agree is a pain in the lower backside, it's still worth it. Half Life 2 is and will be one of the best FPS-games ever made.

To be honest I've never been into PC gaming much, apart from WoW and Football Manager (and Champ. Manager before that)... and these days I don't play FM any more as whenever I feel like playing on my PC I'm logging into WoW.

Outside of WoW I much prefer console gaming, so I'm usually playing the FIFA 08 or Heavenly Sword (which I love) at the moment... although I still play MotorStorm F1 Champ. Edition and Resistance: Fall of Man online quite a bit too (which is odd as I normally find FPS games boring).

Half-Life never really appealed to me - although I used to play a bit of CounterStrike at work before finding WoW and that was OK (although not a patch on R:FoM in my opinion).
