Wrath of the Lich King - Details Overload!

In the past week or so a whole host of announcements have been made about what we can expect from Wrath of the Lich King (the next expansion due for release, in case you have been living under a large rock recently).

Check out some of the key details after the jump! Instances
  • 5-man instances will be designed to be completed in under an hour.
  • All 5-man instances will have a Heroic mode, which will have a different loot table to the normal mode.
  • A new token system will be available (similar to the Badge of Justice used now).
Raiding
  • All new raids in Wrath of the Lich King (including Arthas!) will have two modes, 10-man and 25-man.
  • 25-man raids will drop gear a tier higher than the same instance in 10-man mode.
  • The 10-man and 25-man raid progression will not depend on each other (so you can move onto the next 10-man without needing to do the 25-man mode of your current one first).
  • There will be no attunements or keys needed for any raid instances
  • The 10-man and 25-man versions of the same raid will be on different lockout timers, so if you want you can do both using the same character in the same day/week.
Death Knight
  • As long as you have at least one character level 55 or above on your account, you can create one Death Knight character per realm on ANY realm, either faction (apart from PvP servers where you already have characters).
  • Death Knights will have their own starter area - a floating citadel similar to Naxxramas.
  • Dealth Knights will start at level 55, with a relevant number of abilities straight away.
  • You will NOT have to sacrifice an existing character to create a Death Knight.
  • The Death Knight will be capable of tanking or DPS, with their tanking "niche/speciality" being anti-magic tanking.
  • Death Knight characters will have a 60% speed summoned Death Charger land mount when created. This can be upgraded via quests similar to the Paladin and Warlock summoned mounts.
  • The Death Knight will use a Rune meter, which will appear below the Health Bar. You will be able to place up to 6 runes in any combination of Unholy, Blood, and Frost on the meter.
  • The Runes will be consumed by use of abilities, but will refresh like a Rogue's energy Meter.
  • There will be a secondary bar called Runic Power, which will be filled on the use of Runic abilities, but will decay over time much like Warrior rage.
  • Runic Power will be used with moves that drain all Runic power and have powers and effects that are stronger depending on how much Runic Power was used. In this way it will be much like the Warrior's Execute ability or the Rogue's finishing moves.
